Chapter 1

Welcome Back or Welcome to the Podcast and Intro Purpose

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

"Hello, my amazing mathematicians! Welcome back—or, if this is your first time joining us, welcome to Paws and Possibility! I’m Mrs. Nicholson from The School at Marygrove, and this is our special virtual learning spot where we review the big ideas from today’s lesson. Our goal is to make learning stick so you can feel confident and ready for tomorrow. Today, we’re rounding numbers—so sharpen your math paws, because we’re going to pounce on place value!"

Chapter 2

Overview of Eureka Math Module 1 and Lesson 4 Learning Target

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

"We’re still in Module 1 of Eureka Math—our place value, rounding, and algorithms adventure.

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

In Lesson 4, our learning target was:

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

I can round multi-digit numbers to any place using place value understanding.

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

This means we use what we know about the value of digits to decide which multiple of ten, hundred, or thousand a number is closest to."

Chapter 3

Review: Lesson Components and Interactive Practice

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

"In class, we learned a three-step process for rounding:

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

Find the place value you’re rounding to. Look at the digit to the right. then, Decide does the number stay the same or round up?

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

Example 1 Round 3 thousand,4 hundred and 76 to the nearest hundred. If you need to, pause the video and jot the number down. The hundreds place is 4. Look at the tens place. see, it’s 7, which is 5 or more, so we round up. 3 thousand, 4 hundred and 76 rounds up to 3 thousand, 5 hundred.

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

Your turn: Round 8 thousand,2 hundred and 43 to the nearest ten. If you need to, pause the video and jot the number down. The tens place is 4. Look at the one's place. do you see it, it’s 3, which is less than 5, so we keep it the same. That means 8 thousand ,2 hundred and 43 rounds down to 8 thousand ,2 hundred and 40.

Chapter 4

Review Learning Target, Encourage Practice, and Tease Next Episode

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

"Let’s say our learning target one more time. I can round multi-digit numbers to any place using place value understanding.

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

You did an awesome job rounding today! Keep practicing at home by looking at prices in the store, page numbers in your books, or even the number of steps you take and round them up or down.

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

Next time on Paws and Possibility, we’ll dive into Lesson 5, where we’ll use rounding and place value to solve word problems. Until then, keep those paws moving toward possibility. Bye, friends!"
