Chapter 1
Math & Reading Adventures
Candice Nicholson (Jackson)
Hello, scholars and families! Welcome back to Pause and Progress. I’m Mrs. Nicholson, and I’m so excited to share what we’ve been working on in class. In math, this coming week we will be moving through Eureka Math Module 1, Lessons 4 through 9. These lessons will have us using place value to solve word problems, practice rounding, and strengthen our addition and subtraction strategies. Remember, if you ever feel stuck, the Eureka Math videos are a great resource to review at home.In reading, we’re continuing with EL Module 1, Lessons 4 through 9, diving deeper into the novel Esperanza Rising. This book is such a powerful story of resilience, hope, and change, and it’s sparking some amazing discussions in our classroom. Families, ask your scholar what part of Esperanza’s journey connects with them the most—you’ll be surprised by the thoughtful answers they share.
Chapter 2
Testing & Important Dates
Candice Nicholson (Jackson)
This week, our scholars will begin their I-Ready Testing for ELA. Next week we will start math. Please help your child get a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast so they’re ready to do their best. Testing isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing what we know and where we can grow. Headphones: Since your scholar uses technology in both classes, please send two sets of headphones so they can have headphones available in both classes. If you have already done so, that will make testing go much smoother. We also have some important dates coming up: Curriculum Night is scheduled for next Wednesday, September 17, 2025. I look forward to welcoming families, sharing classroom goals, and answering your questions. Picture Day is on September 24th. Come in with your smiles ready! And remember, there is no school on September 29th for a professional development day. Mark those calendars!

Special Announcements
Candice Nicholson (Jackson)
I missed my scholars last Friday because I was at Michigan State University receiving an Alumni Award from the College of Education. It was such an honor, but I definitely missed being with you in the classroom. I can’t wait to share a bit about that experience and what it meant to me. Also, a quick reminder: Homework packs are due every Monday. Staying on top of the assignments helps build responsibility and reinforces everything we’re learning together. Scholars, if you’re having trouble, don’t forget those Eureka Math video modules—they’re always there to help guide you step by step.
Chapter 4
Seasons of Change
Candice Nicholson (Jackson)
As we wrap up, I just want to pause and reflect on the change of seasons. We’re saying goodbye to summer and hello to autumn. Just like the seasons, our classroom is full of growth and change. Every lesson, every book, every challenge is shaping us into stronger learners and leaders.Families, thank you for your continued support. Scholars, remember to keep showing up with curiosity, kindness, and determination. We have so much ahead—math adventures, reading journeys, and plenty of exciting events this fall.Until next time, keep pausing to reflect and progressing with purpose. I’ll see you in class!
