Chapter 1

It Has Been a While, Huskies

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

Hello wonderful families, this is Mrs. Nicholson, and welcome back to another episode of Paws and Progress. It has been a little while since our last update, and I want to begin by saying thank you for your patience and continued support. Life has certainly been life-ing lately with family emergencies and unexpected turns, but I am so glad to be back with you and ready to share all the exciting things happening in our classroom. Even with the ups and downs, our Huskies have been busy learning and having fun. Recently, our fifth graders had an amazing time at the Henry Ford Museum, where they explored inventions, transportation, and history in a hands-on way. Both fourth and fifth graders also attended the University of Detroit Mercy women’s basketball game, where they cheered with enthusiasm and represented our school beautifully. Looking ahead, please join us this Wednesday after school for Family Game Night. It will be a great time to laugh, connect, and make memories together as a school community.

Chapter 2

Japan Trip and House Updates

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

I am thrilled to share that our Japan educational travel opportunity is on the horizon. Please join us on Tuesday, November eleventh, twenty twenty-five, at five o’clock in the evening for our EF Tours Japan information session. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the trip, the itinerary, and how your scholar can be a part of this exciting cultural experience. Also in November, the House of Nukumori is kicking off our schoolwide canned food drive. From November fifth through November twenty-first, all houses will compete to see who can collect the most canned goods. Will it be Nukumori, Altruismo, Isibindi, or Reveur? Let us see which house can show the most kindness and generosity this month as we give back to our community.

Chapter 3

Fourth Grade Highlights

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

Our fourth graders are diving into Module Three, where they are learning about multi-digit multiplication and division. This is a big step forward in their mathematical journey, and daily practice of multiplication facts from one through twelve will help build confidence and accuracy.

Homework Reminder: Homework is due on Monday, November tenth. Scholars should complete the odd-numbered problems on pages one hundred forty-three through one hundred fifty-seven in their Succeed books, which covers Lessons Six through Eight. They should also complete pages three and six in the Teaching with Tommy book they received during our University of Detroit field trip. Page three focuses on Titans Women’s Basketball History. Page six explores Concession Stand Math. In addition, scholars should be on Lesson Six in Zearn and aim to complete through Lesson Eight by the end of the week. If your child is a bit behind, the weekend is a perfect time to catch up.

Chapter 4

Fifth Grade Updates

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

Our fifth graders are continuing in Module One, Unit Three in our English Language Arts curriculum. They have been reading, analyzing, and reflecting deeply as they draft original monologues inspired by Esperanza Rising. These monologues highlight courage, identity, and voice, and I am incredibly proud of the thought and creativity students are bringing to their work. In Social Studies, we continue exploring Colonial American history and the many perspectives that shaped our nation. Students are learning how different cultures, beliefs, and experiences contributed to the story of America. It is wonderful to see them making connections between the past and the world we live in today.

Chapter 5

Gentle Reminders and November Reflections

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

As the weather turns colder, we are making a small change to keep our Huskies warm and safe. Beginning last week, fourth and fifth grade students will be dismissed from their classrooms rather than waiting outside. Families should continue to park in the same area and use the same door for pickup. When you arrive, please text your child’s name and grade to three one three, four three seven, three three nine seven. Your child will then be sent out to your car. Dismissal will begin promptly at three forty in the afternoon. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal smooth and safe during the colder months.

Candice Nicholson (Jackson)

As we enter November, the month of gratitude and reflection, I want to pause to say thank you. Thank you for your continued partnership, for the encouragement you give your children, and for the way you support our classroom community. Teaching your scholars is truly a joy, and I am grateful for each and every one of you. Until next time, this is Mrs. Nicholson reminding you to keep learning, keep growing, and keep progressing, Huskies.
